Mi'gmaq Online has been a presence on the net since 1997 with seven words and two sentences. The original plan was for a CD-ROM based talking dictionary, but as upload times on the net became faster we were able to make the project totally internet based.

Watson provided the project with the database we work from (and add to). He and others, especially Janice Vicaire, had compiled and enhanced the data over the several decades he has spent working with the Mi'gmaq language in Listuguj and communities in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He was instrumental in the publication of a Mi'gmaq bible. He has taught Mi'gmaq linguistics courses at the university level and has worked extensively in Mi'gmaq curriculum development.
